Conservation Both Natural and by Design

In Eastman, we see the forests and the trees. And the lake and the certified Audubon Sanctuary golf course. Our unspoiled natural environment that captivated the community’s founders decades ago continues to enthrall owners and visitors. When you drive down the road from the main entrance, you will be awed by the vista of sapphire waters or wintry silvery sheen against a backdrop of New England forest your first time. . .  and every time afterwards.

Some places talk about a commitment to preserving the environment. In Eastman, we live it. Conservation is in our community’s DNA.

Biodiversity to Live For

Ask Eastman's owners about the community’s “assets,” and they’re likely to inventory the multiple species of plant and wildlife, ponds and marshes. Or the crystal-clear brooks that ripple through the community with soothing, spa-like sounds. And, of course, Eastman Lake, the center of our watershed that teems with bass, pickerel, pike, and trout.

Conservation by Design

Our commitment to the environment is both natural and by design. Stewardship of the land and watershed is embedded in every decision made, structure built, amenity added to this land that was shaped millions of years ago by a glacier. Approximately 12% of Eastman’s land is under conservation easements that protect it from further development and provide for year-round use for low-impact recreational activities.

Paying It Forward

In Eastman, environmental education and conservation is an ongoing, intergenerational pursuit. Volunteers mentor teens each summer in the Youth Conservation Corps in projects such as erosion control and pollinator gardens. Golfers riding in clean-energy electric carts may combine bird-watching with birdies as they play on chemical-free course irrigated with waste water. Our two community centers utilize solar and geothermal energy.

Trust in Our Loons

Dark skies abound here where our idea of nightlife is gazing at the stars while listening to the loons, bullfrogs, and owls somewhere “out there.” Our dedication to conservation and sustainable living is at the core of who we are and what we do. Just ask our resident loons how well we do. They keep coming back to live and nest year after year.
